The Presidents' Forum Dr. Stephen Wallenhaupt Dr. Stephen L. Wallenhaupt is the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs of the Presbyterian Hospital/Novant Health Southern Piedmont Region. He has served in this role since October, 2001. He is a board certified Cardiovascular surgeon, formerly a partner of Hawthorne Cardiovascular Surgeons here in Charlotte, 1993-2001. He was assistant professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine from 1985-1993. Dr. Wallenhaupt received his M. D. degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1978, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He was a John M. Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, receiving a bachelor of science degree in zoology with honors in 1974. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at UNC. He is a member of multiple medical societies including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, North Carolina Surgical Society, American College of Chest Physicians, American Medical Association and the North Carolina Medical Society.
